THE BACKUP TEAM
I am sure you will be surprised to learn that all the hard PR work involved in bringing Brian home (apart from the flying of course) is now being done by a paid team of TWO!
I feel it would be appropriate to tell you just a little bit about them. Originally there was a team of four, but when Global GT pulled the plug, the two most experienced staff were forced to leave the project, leaving Alison Harper and Charles Heil to handle everything. Not only that, overnight they lost their office, computer and all the other bits and pieces needed to support the flight. Brian's home became the new office and they were faced will all kinds of problems not least being that Brian's computer wouldn't run some of the internet software - he's a pen and ink man!
When I asked Alison for information, she sent me the following snippet:
"There was a team of 4 - Simon Newlyn my boss and Sarah
Browse, both
exceptionally good at PR. Unfortunately, they had to leave the project as
GT Global where paying there wages! Charles and myself are the cheaper
option for Brian - both far too young and inexperienced to handle a project
such as this - but, its a great learning curve!!! Charles (22) graduated
from St Andrews Uni in Scotland last year after having studied English and
Art History and me (24), I left Brighton Uni last year, after studying
Business Admin. As you can see both relevant to this!!! However, we work
pretty well together and are confident that between us, Brian, and everyone
else who is helping, that we'll get him back soon and safely"
Well...
Alison and Charles I think you are both doing a wonderful job and I sincerely hope you go
far in you chosen careers.
There are of course many more people who have helped along the way for instance.....
John Hunt, who has worked incredibly hard to persuade flyers to meet up with Brian. See his web site at www.huntwing.force9.co.uk
Margaret Fincham in the USA who's invaluable PR work has lifted the profile of the flight right across North America and beyond.
Ken Amer of Orkney, who emailed the first photos of Brian's arrival on British Soil.
I know there are many more names to add to this list and as soon as I find out who they are I will add them!
