BASIC MICROLIGHTING GUIDE
BASIC MINIMUM EQUIPMENT
- 3 large poles, 3 small poles, rope and sailcloth.
- Small but noisy power unit
- A field
- 2,000,000,000,000,000,000 cubic feet of air (approx.)
BASIC AERODYNAMICS
- Lift = Coefficient x Air density x Sail area x Velocity x Velocity
BASIC TAKING OFF
- Know the formula for lift.
- Check:
- That you have your coefficient with you
- That the air is dense enough
- That you do not attempt to leave the ground until you have sufficient squarespeed. Learn to recognise the difference between squarespeed and
roundspeed. Remember, roundspeed can be misleading.
BASIC FLYING
- Try to stay in the middle of the air
- Do not go near the edges of it
- The edges of the air can be recognised by the appearance of ground,
buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to
fly there.
BASIC TURNING
- The aircraft is inclined to point itself in different directions.
- You will be inclined to choose the one you like best.
- Its simply a matter of the way you're inclined!
BASIC LANDING
- Ascertain the whereabouts of the ground.
- Adjust attitude so that it is below you.
- Descend
