BASIC MICROLIGHTING GUIDE

BASIC MINIMUM EQUIPMENT
  1. 3 large poles, 3 small poles, rope and sailcloth.
  2. Small but noisy power unit
  3. A field
  4. 2,000,000,000,000,000,000 cubic feet of air (approx.)
BASIC AERODYNAMICS
  1. Lift = Coefficient x Air density x Sail area x Velocity x Velocity
BASIC TAKING OFF
  1. Know the formula for lift.
  2. Check:
    1. That you have your coefficient with you
    2. That the air is dense enough
    3. That you do not attempt to leave the ground until you have sufficient squarespeed. Learn to recognise the difference between squarespeed and roundspeed. Remember, roundspeed can be misleading.
BASIC FLYING
  1. Try to stay in the middle of the air
  2. Do not go near the edges of it
  3. The edges of the air can be recognised by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there.
BASIC TURNING
  1. The aircraft is inclined to point itself in different directions.
  2. You will be inclined to choose the one you like best.
  3. Its simply a matter of the way you're inclined!
BASIC LANDING
  1. Ascertain the whereabouts of the ground.
  2. Adjust attitude so that it is below you.
  3. Descend
